A
note to say how much we all enjoyed "The Belle of Amherst" at
Skidmore. I regret that I did not have a chance to tell you in
person after the performance.
I
was so impressed at how every moment was filled. Your connection with
the audience was striking. You pulled us into the life of Emily
Dickinson with humor, empathy and intelligence. As my students
later reported to me, they loved the performance and were mesmerized by
it.
Portraying
any historical figure of literary figure whose successes, failures and
foibles are probably known to most audiences, presents a unique
challenge and I think you met this challenge in every way. The
research you accomplished on this personally and her poetry, really
shows in your performance. You found insights to this personality
which were rich and illuminating. Your performance was uniquely
refreshing and continually engaging.
Our
students spoke of it for days after. They were also impressed by
the idea that one (person) could sustain a whole play! Bravo to
you and thank you for performing "Belle of Amherst" at
Skidmore. It will live within us for a long time! |
